Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025) – The victim in this case has been identified as Jan Keneth Meza Figueroa, 18.
Mr. Figueroa’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division. Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, September 7, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 200 block of Atando Avenue in the North Tryon Division.
On Sunday, September 7, shortly after 2:45 a.m., officers responded to reports of gun shots in the 200 block of Atando Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims with apparent gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC. The other victim was transported to a hospital by MEDIC with life threatening injuries. An additional victim self-transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
