Middle School Coach Charged in Crimes Against Children Investigation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) have arrested and charged a Kennedy Middle School football coach, Shymere Kavon Leroy Simms, 22, in a Crimes Against Children (CAC) investigation.

On Wednesday, Aug. 6, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Simms.

Simms was later transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with one count of Indecent Liberties with a Student.

Simms was previously employed at Alexander Graham Middle School followed by Kennedy Middle School.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
