Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit (CMPD) are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8800 block of Air Park West Drive in the Freedom Division.

On Saturday, Aug. 8, officers responded an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 8800 block of Air Park West Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a victim who sustained an apparent gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Freedom Division detectives and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

On Monday, Aug. 10, the victim, Britany Hill, 34, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Today, Aug. 11, the Homicide Unit took over the investigation from CMPD’s Freedom Division.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of her death.

Detectives have determined that this shooting occurred during a large late‑night car meet at the listed location. Tipsters remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
