Homicide Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 5, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) homicide unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the Hickory Grove Division.

On Friday, May 1, officers, Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the 6600 block of Yateswood Drive in reference to an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, officers located the female, Isabella Mary Alexandria Stroupe, 19, and she was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Members of the homicide unit and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to further investigate.

Days following the incident, the manner of death was ruled a homicide after consulting with the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s office.

As a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified Thomaz Kenon Hamilton, 24, as a suspect in connection to this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On Tuesday, May 5, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Hamilton without incident.

Hamilton was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to interview with homicide detectives. At the conclusion of this interview, Hamilton was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Hamilton is charged with the following:

  • First Degree Murder
  • First Degree Rape

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of her death and this arrest.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
