Homicide Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Oct. 13, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1300 block of Winding Branch Court in the North Division.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, at approximately 10:51 p.m., officers responded to a Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling (SIOD) call for service in the 1300 block of Winding Court Branch. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim, Peter Batista Fana, 51, who sustained a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported Fana to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, Mr. Fana was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, and MEDIC also assisted.

Mr. Fana’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
