Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025) – As the result of this continued investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) detectives identified two suspects in connection to this case and obtained warrants for their arrest.

On Monday, Nov. 24, CMPD’s Juvenile Accountability and Diversion Empowerment (JADE) team located and arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile suspect on his outstanding warrants.

Tuesday, Nov. 25, Zantavious Dondrell Walker, 25, turned himself in at the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and was placed under arrest.

Both suspects were interviewed by homicide detectives at the LEC.

At the conclusion of these interviews, both suspects were transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

Murder
Felony Conspiracy
Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of these arrests.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Oct. 13, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1300 block of Winding Branch Court in the North Division.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, at approximately 10:51 p.m., officers responded to a Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling (SIOD) call for service in the 1300 block of Winding Court Branch. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim, Peter Batista Fana, 51, who sustained a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported Fana to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, Mr. Fana was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, and MEDIC also assisted.

Mr. Fana’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
