Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, June 21, 2026) – On June 18, 2026, Freedom Division officers detained a suspect near the incident location. The individual was identified as Anthony Hood Jr., 27, who was transported to the hospital the morning of the incident. Upon his release on June 21, 2026, Mr. Hood was taken to the Law Enforcement Center for an interview with homicide detectives. At the conclusion of that interview, he was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with:
  • Murder

  • Breaking and Entering with the Intent to Terrorize

  • Kidnapping

The victim’s family has been notified of this arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, June 18, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 6800 block of Ciera Nichole Court in the Freedom Division.

On Thursday, June 18, shortly after 9:30 a.m., officers responded to an Assist MEDIC call for service in the 6800 block of Ciera Nichole Court.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with apparent trauma. Charlotte Fire Department pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD, Medic and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
