Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, February 15, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 700 block of Lawton Road in the Freedom Division.
On Sunday, February 15, shortly after 6 a.m., officers responded to a Check the Welfare call for service in the 700 block of Lawton Road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim who had sustained apparent trauma. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and CFD also responded to assist.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
