Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9500 block of Lucy Jane Lane in the Independence Division.
Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division
Case Update: Homicide Investigation -- 9500 Lucy Jane Lane
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, April 5, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Illya Armstead (DOB: 10/13/1994).
The suspect, Shaniyah McClain (DOB: 11/24/2003), was quickly located and apprehended by Independence Division officers. Ms. McClain was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown to be interviewed by homicide detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Ms. McClain was placed under arrest and charged with Murder. She was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The victim's next of kin has been notified of her death and arrest of the suspect.
While officers are not currently looking for additional suspects in this case, the investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, April 4, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9500 block of Lucy Jane Lane in the Independence Division.
On Tuesday, April 4, shortly after 3:30 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 9500 block Lucy Jane Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. Officers pronounced the victim deceased on the scene. A suspect was taken into custody nearby.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Victim Services, CFD, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
