Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, October 13, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a breaking and entering and an assault incident in the North Division.

On Friday, October 13, 2023, at approximately 11:55 a.m., North Division officers responded to a suspicious person call for service in the 9800 block of Spring Park Drive.  Upon arrival, officers encountered the subject at a home on Spring Garden Drive.  The subject stated that he lived at the home, however, officers were able to determine that the subject did not live at the home and had broken into the residence.

The preliminary investigation indicates the subject attempted to retreat inside of the home.  Officers proceeded to follow the subject into the house.  As the officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, a violent confrontation ensued.  Additional units responded to the scene attempting to take the individual into custody.  Officers gave multiple commands to the suspect to cease his resistance, however, the suspect failed to comply.  During the attempt to take the suspect into custody, three officers sustained serious injuries.  The suspect pinned a female officer to the ground and began to strangle her.  A second officer sustained a laceration to his face while a third officer sustained an eye injury.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC arrived on scene.   MEDIC transported all three officers to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained during the confrontation.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital as a precaution.
