Fatal Crash Investigation in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, May 28, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal crash in the South Division.

On Sunday, May 28, 2023, at approximately 2:43am, officers responded to the 6800 block of Carmel Rd. in reference to a motor vehicle crash call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a 2011 Honda Accord that had run off the roadway and struck a light pole and a tree. Medic arrived on scene and pronounced the driver deceased due to injuries sustained in the collision.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda was traveling southwest on Carmel Rd when the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the road, struck a light pole and a tree.

It is unknown if impairment is a factor but toxicology results are pending.  Speed appears to be a factor in this collision.

Next of kin has not been located or notified of the driver’s death.
