Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, May 1, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Nicholas Davon Cole (DOB 04/24/1997).

 

As a result of the continued investigation, Homicide Unit detectives identified the suspect as Adonis Smith (DOB 04/28/2002). Detectives obtained warrants on Smith for 1st Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Smith sustained a gunshot wound in the original incident and is hospitalized in critical but stable condition. He will be taken into custody once he is released from the hospital. The family of the victim has been notified of the charges.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, April 29, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide in the 100 block of Atando Ave in the North Tryon Division.

 

On Saturday, April 29, 2023, shortly after 2:45 a.m., North Tryon Division officers responded a Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 100 block of Atando Ave. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with traumatic injuries. Medic transported the victim to Atrium main with life threatening injuries. Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased upon arrival.

 

Homicide Unit detectives and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
