Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, June 15, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Paul Ja’Varius Tate (DOB: 01/25/2002).

 

As a result of the continued investigation and with assistance from the community, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified a 16-year-old suspect in connection to this case.

 

During the early evening hours on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, the juvenile suspect turned themselves into detectives at the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown.  At the conclusion of the interview with detectives, the suspect was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center and was charged with Murder.

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the victim’s death and the suspect’s arrest.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the North Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, June 14, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2900 block of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in the North Division.

 

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, shortly after 2:00 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 2900 block of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in the North Division. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on-scene.

 

Homicide detectives along with Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, Victim Services, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
