Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, August 19, 2023) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of Reynaldo Rivera.

On Monday, July 24, 2023, Theopolis Raquan Martin (DOB: 08/26/1995) turned himself into the Mecklenburg County Jail.

On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Henry Cornejo, (DOB: 02/06/1990) was released from the hospital and arrested. 

On Saturday, August 19, 2023, Anthony Jamison Martin Jr. (DOB: 06/02/1998) was arrested by CMPD’s Violent Apprehension Team.

After being interviewed by detectives, all three have been charged with

  • First Degree Murder
  • Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Attempted First Degree Murder

In addition to the charges above, Henry Cornejo and Anthony Martin Jr. have also been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrests.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 18, 2023) The deceased victim in this case has been identified as Reynaldo Rivera (DOB: 06/07/1983).  The victim’s family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 17, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5600 block of Paces Glen Avenue in the Independence Division.

 

On Monday, July 17, shortly after 9:40 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 5600 block of Paces Glen Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located two gunshot wound victims. One victim was pronounced deceased on scene. The second victim was transported by MEDIC to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, and the Community Policing Crisis Response Team also assisted.
