Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 19, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified a suspect in connection to this case.
On Monday, June 19, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested Jerome Laricky Planter (DOB: 08/26/1990). Mr. Planter was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following: Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury (3 counts), and Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, June 17, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as La’Nard Gaddy (DOB: 04/04/1990).
The three victims who were transported to local hospitals and treated for gunshot wounds and are in stable condition.
The victim’s family has been notified of the victim’s death.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Saturday, June 17, 2023) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 6400 block of Independence Boulevard in the Independence Division.
On Saturday, June 17, 2023, shortly after 2:00 a.m., Independence Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with injury call for service in the 6400 block of Independence Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. Medic responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased on scene. Officers also located three other victims with gunshot wounds who were transported by medic to local hospitals.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC, and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
