Homicide Investigation in the Central Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, June 9, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 300 block of North Brevard Street in the Central Division.

 

On Thursday, June 1, 2023, shortly after 2:30 a.m., officers were in the area of 300 block of North Brevard Street when they were flagged down regarding a disturbance. Officers then heard a gunshot at the location and observed the suspect fleeing the area with a firearm. Officers took the suspect into custody without incident and located a male victim who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

 

On Friday, June 9, 2023, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital from the injuries sustained during this incident. The victim has been identified as Martell Lavelle Davis (12/11/1996). The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

 

The suspect in the case has been identified as Brandon Carteea Allen (1/19/1988). On the date of the incident, he was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, and Discharge Firearm in the City Limits. Upon the death of the victim, the suspect’s charges have been updated to First Degree Murder and Discharge Firearm into Occupied Property.

   

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
