Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, April 24, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the North Tryon Division.

On Thursday, April, 20, 2023, at approximately 10:13 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Eastway Drive in reference to a motor vehicle collision with injury. Upon arrival, officers located a Nissan Rogue off the right side of the roadway with extensive damage.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene. Medic pronounced the driver of the Nissan deceased on scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Nissan, Luis Adrian Garcia (DOB: 12/20/1988), was traveling north on Eastway Drive above the posted speed limit, was unable to maintain his lane, and veered off the right side of the roadway. Once the vehicle left the roadway, it went airborne and struck a sign.

Speeding and impairment by the driver of the Nissan are suspected to be contributing factors for this crash.
