Case Update: Sexual Assault Investigation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, September 1, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit have signed six additional arrest warrants on Mr. Pitti-Casazola for six additional felony counts of Sexual Contact Under Pretext of Medical Treatment.

 

The six additional victims were identified following CMPD’s release of information on July 18, 2023. Each of the victims had similar allegations that Mr. Pitti-Casazola sought them out under the guise of providing medical care through the Mecklenburg County Health Department. These assaults have occurred as far back as February 2023 and as recently as July 2023.

 

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Mr. Pitti-Casazola was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina with the assistance of CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and the Fayetteville Police Department. Mr. Pitti-Casazola is currently in custody in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $150,000 bond.

 

CMPD detectives believe there are more potential victims and we ask anyone with information to call 704-336-8279 and speak directly to a Sex Assault Unit detective. Spanish-only speakers may instead call 704-336-7922. CMPD applauds the courage of the survivors who have come forward to share the details of their abuse. We want to stress that CMPD does not inquire into the immigration status of any survivors.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 18, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit are conducting a sexual assault investigation in the 3400 block of Teal Point Drive in the Eastway Division.

 

On Tuesday, July 11, shortly before 3 p.m., officers received a call from a woman advising she received an illegitimate medical exam at her residence from a suspect impersonating a medical professional. Detectives conducted an investigation and determined that the suspect was not a medical professional and did not have reason to examine the victim.   

 

As a result of the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Daniel Pitti-Casazola (DOB 08/27/1981). He was arrested and at the conclusion of interviews with detectives, he will be facing charges to be determined.

 

At the time of the incident, Pitti-Casazola was employed with the Mecklenburg County Health Department as a Spanish Language interpreter.
