Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 14, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified two suspects in connection to the murder of Ja’Kez Kyiesh Johnson.
On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested a 15-year-old juvenile suspect and Emanuel Isaac Parada (DOB: 11/30/2003). Both suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Prada was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and the 15-year-old juvenile suspect was transferred into the custody of a Juvenile Detention Center. The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrests.

Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 10, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5000 block of Curtiswood Drive in the North Tryon Division.
On Saturday, July 8, 2023, shortly before 5:00 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 5000 block of Curtiswood Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. MEDIC transported the victim to Atrium Health Main with life threatening injuries.
Homicide Unit detectives and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, the Charlotte Fire Department, and MEDIC also assisted.
On, Monday, July 10, 2023, the victim, Ja’Kez Kyiesh Johnson (DOB: 09/04/2003), passed away as a result of his injuries. The victim’s family has been notified of his death.
