Shots Fired at Officers Following Central Division Armed Robbery; One in Custody
Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, Feb. 6, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into an armed robbery and vehicle pursuit during which shots were fired at officers.
On Friday, Feb. 6, shortly after 3:20 a.m., officers responded to an armed robbery call for service in the 500 block of Summit Avenue in the Central Division. Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle fled. Pursuing officers reported hearing gunfire coming from the suspect vehicle in their direction. The suspect vehicle crashed in the 3600 block of Morris Field Drive in the Freedom Division. One suspect fled on foot and was apprehended with assistance from K-9 units.
Christopher Jaiquan Chisholm, 23, was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to speak with detectives.
At the conclusion of his interview, Chisholm was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:
Attempted First Degree Murder
Assault on LEO with a Firearm x 6
Felony Flee/Elude Arrest
Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
Firearm by Felon
No officers were injured, and no vehicles were struck by gunfire during the incident. No officers discharged their service weapons.
Due to shots being fired upon officers, Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC assisted.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
