Sexual Assault Investigation in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, August 11, 2023) – On Friday, August 11, 2023, shortly after 9:30 a.m., CMPD South Division officers responded to a sexual battery and indecent exposure call for service that occurred in the 9500 block of Elm Lane.  A female 15-year-old victim advised that while jogging on McAlpine Creek Greenway, she was approached by a man who was exposing himself.  The suspect then touched the victim inappropriately.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20's, approximately 6'0" with dreadlocks.  He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and grey sweatpants.

We ask media to respect privacy and not film the scene at this time as it is an active, ongoing, and sensitive scene involving a juvenile victim.

CMPD will continue to provide an increased presence on McAlpine Creek Greenway and all greenways across the City. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is also continuing their increased presence. We urge anyone with information about this case to call 911.
