Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. (Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026) — As a result of the continued investigation into the disappearance of Ms. Harris, CMPD detectives began a criminal investigation on Friday, Aug. 7.
As the investigation progressed, detectives located Ms. Harris deceased in the 10000 block of Statesville Road in the North Division.
That same day, detectives applied for and received arrest warrants for Floyd Long, 45, in connection to this case.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Mr. Long.
Mr. Long was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and is charged with the following:
- First Degree Murder
- Concealment of Death
- Possession of a Firearm by Felon
- Larceny of a Canine
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of her death and this arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. (Tuesday, July 14, 2026) —The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Missing Persons Unit is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing person.
On Thursday, July 2, at around 10 a.m., Shaquina Harris was last seen leaving Atrium Hospital in uptown Charlotte. She may have also been in the Beatties Ford and Woodford Bridge Dr area in North Charlotte in the afternoon of July 2.
She was last seen wearing grey sweats.
Anyone with information on Ms. Harris’ whereabouts is asked to please call 911 immediately.
