Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026) – On Wednesday, Sept. 9, at approximately 12:23 a.m., the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) received a Suspicious Vehicle call for service in the 1200 block of Enderly Road in the Metro Division.

The caller indicated that there were two suspects in a suspicious vehicle involved in suspected criminal activity. The suspect vehicle was later determined to be recently reported stolen.

An officer arrived on scene at approximately 12:28 a.m. Preliminary information indicates that the officer encountered the suspect. The suspect then produced a firearm and fired his weapon in the direction of the officer, striking the officer. The suspect fled the scene.

The officer did not fire their service weapon back at the suspect.

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and is currently in stable condition.

Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command and Homicide Unit responded to the scene. CMPD's Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.

The CMPD is the lead investigating agency in this case.

As is standard procedure with any officer-involved shooting, CMPD's Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Division.
