Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, Sept. 18, 2026) – On Friday, Sept. 18, at approximately 2:26 p.m., Metro Division officers were responding to a 911 call for service of a disturbance around 1300 block of LaSalle Street.

Preliminary information indicates that officers observed a group of individuals nearby, unrelated to the original call for service, who appeared to be engaged in a criminal transaction. When the individuals noticed officers, one person fled on foot. Officers initiated a short foot pursuit and gave multiple commands for the individual to stop.

During the pursuit, the individual produced a firearm. Perceiving an imminent deadly threat, one officer fired his service weapon, striking the suspect.

Officers began immediately rendering medical aid before MEDIC arrived and transported the suspect to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

No officers were injured during this incident. One firearm was recovered at the scene.

Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command and Homicide Unit responded to the scene. CMPD's Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is the lead investigating agency in this case.

As is standard procedure with any officer-involved shooting, CMPD's Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation. The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation per standard protocol.
