Officer Discharges Firearm in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, April 18, 2024) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Freedom Division observed a wanted auto theft suspect with multiple felony warrants outside of his home on April 17, 2024, shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Sharyn Drive. The suspect, identified as Kyle Kollermeier, 23, retreated inside the home upon the approach of officers.
During the process of knocking and speaking with other individuals in the home, a dog displaying aggressive behavior escaped from the home and charged at a Freedom Division officer. The officer attempted to push the dog away multiple times before ultimately discharging his service weapon, striking the dog, which succumbed to its injuries. The officer was not bitten in the incident.
The felony suspect inside the home, Mr. Kollermeier, refused to exit. Officers at that time began protocols for a barricaded suspect situation. A search warrant was obtained to enter the home shortly before 10 p.m.
Upon serving the search warrant, Freedom Division officers arrested Kollermeier as well as an additional adult male and an adult female with active warrants. The suspects’ names, ages and charges are listed below:
- Kyle Kollermeier, 23 - Felony Larceny of Motor Vehicle, Felony Flee to Elude Arrest, Misdemeanor Larceny, Reckless Driving and Driving with License Revoked, Resist/Delay/Obstruct
- Natalie Marlow, 19 – Felony Larceny of Motor Vehicle
- Terry Hulin, 25 – Felony Larceny
CMPD’s Animal Care & Control Division responded to the scene; Animal Care & Control had received previous calls for service regarding the animal involved in this incident. Those calls for service are detailed in the report: A24-682078.
