Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, Oct. 31, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation, homicide detectives identified Anthony Horton, 42, and Maurice Orear, 22, as suspects in connection to this case and obtained warrants for their arrest.

On Thursday, Oct. 30, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Horton.

Today, Friday, Oct. 31, VCAT located and arrested Orear.

Horton and Orear were transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Both Horton and Orear are charged with: 

  • Felony Murder
  • Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Felony Conspiracy

Mr. Neville’s next of kin has been notified of these arrests.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025) – The victim in this case has been identified as Ronald Neville, 53.

As a result of the continued investigation, homicide detectives identified Ronnie Fewell, 32, as a suspect in connection to this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On Tuesday Oct. 21, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Fewell.

Fewell was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:

  • Felony Murder
  • Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Felony Conspiracy

Mr. Neville’s next of kin has been notified of his death and the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, Oct. 10, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 4800 block of Wallingford Street in the Westover Division.

On Friday, Oct. 10, at approximately 5:32 p.m., officers responded to an assist MEDIC call for service in the 4800 block of Wallingford Street.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim who sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and MEDIC also assisted.
