Fatal Crash Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, Oct. 10, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Westover Division.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, at approximately 6:24 p.m., officers responded to the 5100 block of South Tryon Street in reference to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim, Darian Ivan Gueta-Macias, 23, lying in the roadway. Further down the road, officers located a Lexus RX350 and its driver.
MEDIC arrived on scene and transported Mr. Gueta-Macias to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives with CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene to begin their investigation. The Charlote Fire Department also responded.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8, Mr. Gueta-Macias was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Gueta-Macias was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when the Lexus collided with the victim.
The driver of the Lexus was screened for impairment and was found to not be impaired. A toxicology report is pending for Mr. Gueta-Macias. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor for the collision.
Mr. Gueta-Macias’ next of kin has been notified of his death.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
