Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, at approximately 6:13 a.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Wilkinson Blvd. in reference to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim, Travell Shamar Lamont Watts, 28, lying in the roadway unresponsive.

Further down the roadway, officers located a Kia Telluride and its driver who remained on scene.

MEDIC transported the Kia driver with minor injuries and Watts to the hospital. Watts was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene and began their investigation.

Preliminary investigation indicates Watts was walking across the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by the Kia.

The driver of Kia was screened for impairment and was found to not be impaired. Impairment is unknown for Watts; toxicology results are pending. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.

Mr. Watts next of kin has been notified of his death.
