Suspect Arrested After Shooting at CMPD Officers

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025) – On Tuesday, Sept. 2, shortly after 10:30 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon without injury call for service in the 8500 block of North Tryon Street in the University City Division.

Upon arrival, officers located shell casings and heard additional shots fired. A witness provided a description of the suspect, and officers continued to circulate the area. Officers observed a person matching the suspect description standing in the doorway of a nearby hotel. As officers approached, the suspect pointed and discharged a firearm in the direction of the officers.

Officers gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop the firearm, and he complied with the officers’ orders. The suspect, Lance Wade Graham, 36, was arrested, interviewed and transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Graham is charged with three counts of Assault with a Firearm on a Law Enforcement Officer.

No officers were injured during this incident.
