Fatal Crash Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Freedom Division.

On Monday, Aug. 25, at approximately 8:22 p.m., CMPD officers, Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the 5600 block of Paw Creek Road in reference to a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a Chevrolet SUV.

Upon arrival, officers located a motorcycle lying down on its side in the roadway and its driver, Thomas Pruitt, 64, lying next to the motorcycle unresponsive. MEDIC pronounced Mr. Pruitt deceased on scene. Officers also located a Chevrolet SUV and its driver near the motorcycle.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene and began their investigation. 

The driver of the Chevrolet was screened for impairment and was found to not be impaired. Toxicology results are pending for Mr. Pruitt. Contributing circumstances for this vehicle collision are currently under investigation.

Mr. Pruitt’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
