Case Update: Fatal Pedestrian Crash in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Aug. 25, 2025) – The pedestrian in this incident has been identified as Joseph Jackson, 41.
Mr. Jackson’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Aug. 25, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Independence Division.
On Sunday, Aug. 24, at approximately 9:49 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 4700 block of E. Independence Blvd. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian lying in the roadway unresponsive. Further down the road, officers located a Chevrolet Silverado and its driver. MEDIC pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene. The driver of the Chevrolet reported no injuries.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Charlotte Fire also responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was crossing the freeway in an area not designed for pedestrian traffic. The pedestrian was also not wearing reflective clothing.
The driver of the Chevrolet was screened for impairment and was found to not be impaired. Toxicology results are pending for the pedestrian.
