Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation in the death of Demarcus Gerald, 25, detectives identified Dontae Harrison, 27, as a suspect in this case.

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, Harrison was arrested in Atlanta by FBI agents. Harrison will be extradited to Charlotte and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Harrison is charged with Murder.

Mr. Gerald’s next of kin has been notified of this case update.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1400 block of West Trade St. in the Metro Division.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, shortly after 5 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injuries call for service at the 1400 block of West Trade St. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim that had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC transported the victim to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, Dec. 18, the victim, Demarcus Gerald, 25, succumbed to his injuries.

Mr. Gerald’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
