Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) detectives identified Milton McKnight, 36, as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.
On Wednesday, Aug. 13, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested McKnight.
McKnight was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and was interviewed by detectives.
At the conclusion of this interview, McKnight was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
McKnight is charged with the following:
- Murder
- Felony Conspiracy
- First Degree Burglary
Mr. Mouzon’s next of kin has been notified of this case update.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) detectives identified Marcus Worrell, 25, Kwamane Herriott-Cox, 35, and Jermaine Hicks, 40, and obtained warrants for their arrest.
On Aug. 11, CMPD’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested Worrell. Herriott-Cox turned himself into detectives the same day. On Aug. 12, VCAT arrested Hicks.
All suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) where they were interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interviews, Worrell, Herriott-Cox and Hicks were each transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:
- Murder
- Felony Conspiracy
- First Degree Burglary

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
This investigation is now classified as a homicide investigation.

Death Investigation in the North Tryon Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, August 3, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation in the 4000 block of Redwood Avenue in the North Tryon Division.
On Sunday, August 3, 2025, shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to an Assist MEDIC call for service in the 4000 block of Redwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with life threatening injuries. The victim was transported by MEDIC to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased a short while later.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
