Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 29, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation in the death of Robert Murphy, 65, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) detectives identified William Bordsen, 40, as a suspect in this case.

On Monday, July 28, CMPD officers transported Bordsen to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to be interview by homicide detectives.

At the conclusion of this interview, Bordsen was arrested and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Bordsen is charged with First Degree Murder.

Mr. Murphy’s next of kin has been notified of his death and this arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 28, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 4600 block of Coronado Drive in the Independence Division.

On Monday, July 28, shortly before 11 a.m., officers responded to an assist MEDIC call for service in the 4600 block of Coronado Drive.  Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive victim. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, and MEDIC also assisted.
