Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, April 23, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Abijah Barkley, 21.

 

As a result of the continued investigation, detectives have identified a 17-year-old juvenile as a suspect in this case. On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested the juvenile suspect.  The suspect was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 East Trade St.) to speak with detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, the juvenile was transferred into the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and charged with Murder.

 

The victim’s next of kin have been notified of this arrest.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, March 9, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 400 block of Fairwood Ave in the Westover Division.

 

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, shortly after 7 p.m., Westover Division officers responded to an Assist Medic with a suspected overdose call for service in the 400 block of Fairwood Ave in the Westover Division. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who was transported with life-threatening injuries. Upon arrival at the hospital, the victim was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Medic and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
