Fatal Vehicle Crash in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 9, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Oakdale Road at Auten Road in the North Division.
On Sunday, June 8, 2025, at approximately 1:06 p.m., North Division officers responded to a vehicle collision with injuries call for service at the intersection of Oakdale Road and Auten Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male rider in the roadway. On scene, officers located a damaged dirt bike and a damaged Ford truck.
The rider of the dirt bike, Mike Malanda, 12, was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Malanda was riding a dirt bike on the road when he was struck by the Ford truck.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The Charlotte Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Malanda’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
