Fatal Vehicle Crash in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 13, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred in the 3500 block of Weddington Road.

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, at approximately 9:58 p.m., South Division officers responded to a call for service regarding a crash involving a single vehicle. When officers arrived, they located a Volkswagen Beetle off the roadway that struck a tree with an unresponsive male inside the vehicle. MEDIC pronounced the victim, Jake James Fellers, 20, deceased on scene. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded the scene.

Detectives with CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene and began their investigation.

Speed appears to be a contributing factor. Impairment is unknown and pending toxicology results.
