Case Update: Fatal Crash Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, May 2, 2025) – As a result of this continued investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) detectives presented this case to the Mecklenburg County Magistrates Office and a criminal summons was issued for Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle against the 16-year-old driver in this case.
The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, May 2, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Steele Creek Division.
On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at approximately 7:59 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 14200 block of Nations Ford Road. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located a Lexus with front end damage and a Nissan engulfed in flames. The driver of the Nissan, Jinqui Alexander Segura Vega, 38, was trapped inside the vehicle. Segura Vega was pronounced deceased after the fire was extinguished. The 16-year-old juvenile driver and the juvenile passenger of the Lexus were uninjured.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Motor Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene to collect physical evidence.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Lexus was traveling west on Nations Ford Road and collided with the Nissan in the intersection at Westinghouse Blvd. Once the Nissan came to rest it became engulfed in flames.
Alcohol impairment is not suspected to be contributing factors of this crash. Further investigation is needed to determine contributing factors. All occupants of the Lexus were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Segura Vega’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
