Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, April 25, 2025) – As a result of this continued investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) detectives identified Anthony Murry Alexander, 33, as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.

Thursday, April 24, 2025, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested Alexander without incident.

Alexander was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) where he was interviewed by homicide detectives.

At the conclusion of this interview, Alexander was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Alexander is charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by Felon.

Mr. Mason’s next of kin has been notified of this case update.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, April 24, 2025) – The victim in this case has been identified as Jorden Christion Mason, 22.

Mr. Mason’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, April 23, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 7800 block of University City Boulevard in the University City Division.

On Wednesday, April 23, shortly after 2:50 a.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 7800 block of University City Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center where the victim was later pronounced deceased.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD and MEDIC also assisted.
