Fatal Crash Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, April 21, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Steele Creek Division. 

On Friday, April 18, 2025, at approximately 10:09 p.m., Steele Creek Division officers responded to a collision with personal injury call for service near the 2800 block of Shopton Road.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a 2023 BMW M5 on the north side of the roadway that had struck a tree. MEDIC transported three passengers to Atrium Health with life-threatening injuries. MEDIC pronounced the driver of the BMW, Marlon Samuels, 18, deceased on scene. All occupants were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash.

It is unknown if impairment is a factor for this collision. Toxicology results are pending.

Mr. Samuels' next of kin has been notified of his death.
