Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 10, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2000 block of Vinton St. in the Metro Division.

On Saturday, Feb. 8, shortly after 1:25 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 2000 block of Vinton St. Upon arrival, officers discovered a crashed vehicle with a female victim inside suffering from a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.

On Feb. 12, the victim, Emily Lizama Alvarez, 20, was pronounced deceased after succumbing to her injuries.

After Ms. Alvarez’s death, Homicide Unit detectives took over the investigation.

As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with CMPD obtained a secure custody order for First-Degree Murder for an identified juvenile suspect in this case.

The Juvenile suspect is already in the custody of the Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center for an unrelated charge and will be served with this First-Degree Murder charge.

Ms. Alvarez’s next of kin has been notified of her death and the charges of the suspect involved.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
