Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Feb. 17, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Independence Division.
On Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at approximately 9:06 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 9400 block of Monroe Road. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian, Judith Elaine Holloway, 59, in the roadway with life-threatening injuries, a Dodge Charger with damage to the front-end and its driver, Amina Bantalab, 36, located near the injured pedestrian. MEDIC arrived and pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene due to injuries sustained from the crash.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Bantalab was driving east on Monroe Road when she struck Holloway who was walking across Monroe Road.
Bantalab was not injured in the crash. Toxicology results are pending for the Holloway.
Ms. Holloway’s next of kin has been notified of her death.
The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Division.
