Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, January 31, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash involving a bicyclist in the Westover Division.
On Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 8:22 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash with injuries in the 300 block of E. Woodlawn Rd. Upon arrival, officers located a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder and its driver, Casey Hatley Ruppe, 37, and an unresponsive bicyclist, Jeramie Mitchell Page, 41. MEDIC arrived on scene and transported Paige to Atrium Main Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.
The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to conduct their investigation. The Charlotte Fire Department also responded.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Paige was riding his bicycle on E. Woodlawn Rd., without headlights and against traffic when he was struck by the Nissan. The driver of the Nissan, Ruppe, was exiting a parking lot turning left onto E. Woodlawn Rd. when she struck Mr. Page.
It was determined that Ruppe was impaired during the time of the crash and was arrested. Officers transported Ruppe to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) where she was interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of this interview, Ruppe was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
At this time, Ruppe is charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Additional charges may be sought.
Mr. Page’s next of kin has been notified of his death and this arrest.
