Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026 – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the Steele Creek Division.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, CMPD Crime Against Children (CAC) detectives were contacted by the Department of Social Services regarding a seven-month-old male, Julien Malik Grayson, who arrived at a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives responded to the hospital and opened an investigation. Through their work, detectives identified Shidae Monique Sellers, 28, as a suspect. Sellers was arrested and transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) for an interview.
At the conclusion of this interview, Sellers was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Homicide Unit detectives and Crime Scene Search (CSS) personnel responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and collect physical evidence, as the victim was not expected to survive his injuries.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, detectives obtained a murder warrant for Sellers. The warrant was served while she remained in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death and the related arrest.
