Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, May 3, 2026) –Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8800 block of North Tryon Street in the University City Division.

On Sunday, May 3, shortly after 4:30 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 8800 block of North Tryon Street. Upon arrival, officers were informed that an unknown individual had transported the victim to this location for treatment of a gunshot wound. The victim later succumbed to his injuries shortly after being dropped off.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to this location to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
