Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, March 27, 2026) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified Angelvis Jesus Quintero Fernandez, 22, and Anthony Jose Ruiz-Polanco, 33, as suspects in connection to this case and obtained warrants for their arrest.

Fernandez was served by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, March 25, while already in their custody.

This morning, Ruiz-Polanco was located and arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) without incident.

Ruiz-Polanco was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to be interviewed by homicide detectives. At the conclusion of this interview, Ruiz-Polanco was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Both Fernandez and Ruiz-Polanco are charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Conspiracy.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of this arrest.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division. Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, March 25, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5800 block of Albemarle Road in the Hickory Grove Division.

On Sunday, March 22, 2026, shortly after 2 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 5800 block of Albemarle Road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with life-threatening injuries who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to a local hospital.

On Tuesday, March 24, Luis Daniel Gutierrez Mora, 31, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Mr. Gutierrez Mora’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Homicide Unit detectives are now handling the investigation.
