Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026) – As a result of the continued investigation, and with the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies in Texas, investigators identified Kelvin Javier Molina Garcia, 30, as a suspect in connection to this case.

On Tuesday, Jan. 27, officers with the City of Mesquite Police Department in Texas located and arrested Molina Garcia for Murder.

Molina Garcia will be extradited to Charlotte in the coming weeks.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of this arrest.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division. Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Jan. 26, 2026) – The victim in this case has been identified as John Glenn Martinez, 26.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2400 block of Elmin Street in the Westover Division.

On Sunday, Jan. 25, shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers responded to multiple shots fired calls for service in the 2400 block of Elmin Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving measures, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC assisted.
