Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, March 27, 2026) – As the result of this continued investigation, detectives identified Anthony Jose Ruiz-Polanco, 33, as a suspect in connection to this case and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
This morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Ruiz-Polanco without incident.
Ruiz-Polanco was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to interview with homicide detectives. At the conclusion of this interview, Ruiz-Polanco was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Ruiz-Polanco is charged with Murder.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of this arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 24, 2026) – As the result of this continued investigation, North and Hickory Grove Division officers encountered Angelvis Jesus Quintero Fernandez, 22, during a traffic stop. Officers placed Fernandez under arrest on unrelated charges.
Fernandez was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to interview with homicide detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Fernandez was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Fernandez is charged with Murder.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 4300 block of Central Avenue in the Eastway Division.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, shortly after 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a shots fired call for service in the 4300 block of Central Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC and Victim Services assisted.
