Fatal Crash Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Eastway Division.
On Monday, Oct. 20, at approximately 9:56 a.m., officers and MEDIC responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a CSX train in the 1300 block of Central Ave.
Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male, Kenneth Marsh, 60, lying near the railroad tracks. MEDIC pronounced Marsh deceased on scene.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Motor Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Marsh was walking near the railroad tracks when he was struck by a train.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
