Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Oct. 20, 2025) – The victim in this case has been identified as James Randall Martindale, 68.
 
As a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified the suspect in this case as Joshua Jontay Hasty, 44, and obtained warrants for his arrest.
 
On Saturday, Oct. 18, Hasty was located and arrested by CMPD’s Southeast Service Area Crime Reduction Unit. CMPD’s North Tryon Division officers, North Division officers and Real Time Crime Center also assisted with the arrest.
 
Hasty was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) where he was interviewed by detectives. Upon completion of the interview, Hasty was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
 
Hasty has been charged with:
  • Involuntary Manslaughter
  • Possession of Firearm by Felon
Mr. Martindale’s next of kin has been notified of his death and this arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5600 block of North Graham Street in the North Tryon Division.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, shortly after 4:45 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 5600 block of North Graham Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC. 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
